Krys formed in 1997 in Saint-Denis, a suburb of Paris, with three childhood friends named Brahim, Abdellah, and Mourad. They broke through in 2000 with 'Argent Propre, Argent Sale,' a song that took aim at financial corruption and connected with listeners across France.

Their lyrics often drew criticism from politicians and media outlets, with some accusing them of promoting violence or anti-Semitism, which the group denied. Despite that, they kept releasing albums like 'Réalité crue' in 2001 and 'Entre deux mondes' in 2003, moving from their early raw sound toward something more introspective.
