Kyab Sem

Kyab Sem formed in the early 2000s around Anahita Razmi, who played piano and sang, and Shayan Shirazi, who handled electronics and production. Their music drew from Persian classical traditions, ambient electronica, and post-rock, resulting in a sound built on piano melodies, vocals, and electronic textures. They released their debut album, "The Silent Desert," in 2004, followed by other records like "The Mirror in the Wall" in 2007 and "The Garden of Secrets" in 2012.

Their song "Kyab Sem" became a notable piece in their catalog. The group's performances sometimes included provocative visuals and lyrics that explored identity and spirituality, which led to some criticism and accusations of elitism. They generally ignored external pressures and kept working on their own terms.

Kyab Sem maintained a consistent core lineup with Razmi and Shirazi throughout their active years. Their music found an audience willing to follow them into those layered, atmospheric spaces they created.
