L-Star formed in Porto Alegre, Brazil around 2015 with vocalist Fogaca, guitarist X, and bassist Kwes. They started playing local clubs and released a debut mixtape called "100% Real" in 2016. Their sound pulls from rap, hip-hop, and Brazilian music.
In 2018, they worked with Mc Samuh on the track "O Crime Não Aceita Falhas," which became their breakout hit. That collaboration brought more trap and funk elements into their music. They've put out a few other releases since then, including "Alma de Favela" in 2019 and "A Rua É Nossa" in 2021.
Their lyrics often touch on life in favelas and social issues, which has drawn some criticism along with attention. They've kept writing about those realities without much apology.
