L8R formed in London in 1975. The band's lineup included frontman Lex Hunter, drummer Max Thunder, guitarist Slash "Blade" Harrison, and bassist Jack "Reaper" Black. They released three albums: "Black Magic" in 1977, "Hellfire" in 1979, and "Back in Black" in 1980.
Their 1980 album "Back in Black" became their most recognizable work. The title track, along with songs like "In Da House" and "World Of Pain," featured the kind of hard rock sound that defined their decade-long run. Hunter's lyrics often dealt with darker themes, which drew criticism from some quarters.
Lex Hunter died in 1987 at age 35. The band continued without him but didn't reach the same level of recognition. Their music, particularly the songs from that 1980 album, still gets played.
