La 44 Blues formed in 1995 in the La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The original lineup included Federico Stingel on vocals, Ariel "Pájaro" Pintos on guitar, Julián Giles on bass, and Pablo Benítez on drums. They played blues with Argentine folk touches, drawing from artists like B.B. King and Muddy Waters.
Their song "Por Unos Pesos Más" came out in 2001 and became their most recognizable track. It helped them tour Argentina and neighboring countries. They released several albums, including a self-titled debut in 1999 and "Dos Mundos" in 2004.
In 2004, the band faced a legal dispute over their music rights. They've also drawn criticism at times for their political views. They won a Gardel Award for Best Rock Album in 2002 and have performed with artists like Bonnie Raitt and Buddy Guy.
