La Bande à Bonnot formed in 1976 with Philippe Manœuvre on vocals, Louis Bertignac on guitar, Richard Kolinka on bass, and Denis Quélard on drums. Their music mixed punk rock with heavy elements, driven by distorted guitars and Manœuvre's often provocative lyrics.
They released albums including La Bande à Bonnot in 1977, Bande Originale in 1978, and Le Rock de La Bande à Bonnot in 1979. Tracks such as "L'anguille" and "Je Peux Pas M'empêcher" carried their raw, confrontational style. The band faced bans and pushback from authorities over their content and performances, which built a dedicated following despite the friction.
By the early 1980s, their momentum slowed, and they disbanded in 1984. Members pursued other projects afterward, but their records remained touchstones for later French punk acts. Their work, grounded in that late-1970s energy, didn't soften much over their run.
