La Caja de Pandora formed in Buenos Aires in 1986, with Valeria Lynch on vocals, Diego Segura and Rano Sarbach on guitars, Marcelo Marzioni on bass, and Fernando Scarcella on drums. Their debut album 'El Ciego en Dos' came out the following year, and its title track became one of those songs people still remember. They were part of Argentina's heavy metal scene when that was still finding its feet.
They put out records like 'La Negra' in 1989 and 'Mamá' in 1991, but the lineup didn't stay settled. Marzioni and Scarcella left in 1992, replaced by José Luis Quiroga and Hernan Aramberri. Lynch departed in 1996 to go solo, and Patricia Sosa took over as vocalist. The band kept recording through the '90s, with albums including a self-titled one in 1993 and 'Dios Salva' in 1997.
Their songs had some political edge that got them attention, though the specifics tend to get exaggerated in retellings. What's clearer is that they wrote material like 'Vivir Mucho Más' and 'Te Esperaré' that connected with listeners. They disbanded in 2000, but those songs still turn up on playlists and radio.
