La Costumbre formed in Bogotá in the late 1990s, originally with Juan Fernando Velasco on vocals and guitar, Mauricio Rengifo on guitar and vocals, Santiago Cruz on guitar and vocals, and Alejandro Bernal on bass. They released their self-titled debut album in 2003, which included the ballad "Aún Te Amo." That song became a hit across Latin America, with Velasco's vocals and straightforward lyrics about love and longing connecting with listeners.
Other songs like "Como Evitar," "Como Nadie," and "Cuanto Te Amo" followed a similar emotional vein. In 2009, founding members Rengifo and Cruz left to pursue solo work. The band continued, adding new members and releasing albums like 2012's "Con los Ojos Cerrados."
