La Covacha came out of Puerto Rico in the late 1990s, mixing reggaeton with tropical rhythms. Their song 'Adónde Es Que Voy' became a hit, and they put out their first album in 2002. The group had three main members: Alexis on vocals, Fido rapping, and Guelo Star handling production.
They released a couple more albums in the mid-2000s, including 'La Covacha 2' in 2004. Other songs like 'Apago la luz' and 'Corre, Corre' show the kind of upbeat, danceable material they were known for. Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for being explicit, but they kept making music that reflected where they came from.
In 2009, Alexis and Fido left the group. Guelo Star continued using the La Covacha name with different singers. The band's earlier work, especially that first album, helped establish a sound that connected with a lot of listeners during reggaeton's rise.
