La Gringa formed in 2005 around vocalist Carla Morrison and guitarist Juan Manuel Torreblanca, with bassist Aldo Muñoz also part of the core lineup. Their name, meaning 'The Foreigner,' nodded to Morrison's non-Mexican background. They put out albums like 'Para Ti con Desprecio' in 2007 and 'Déjenme Llorar' in 2009.
Their 2009 song 'Mala Mujer' became a point of contention, with its lyrics challenging traditional gender roles. The track drew criticism from conservative groups and faced some censorship, which sharpened the band's reputation for tackling sensitive topics directly.
After releasing 'Amor Supremo' in 2011 and 'Azúcar Morena' in 2013, La Gringa became less active as a unit. Morrison has since worked on solo material.
