La Guardia formed in Granada in 1982 with Manuel España on vocals and guitar, Antonio García on bass, and Ricardo Marín on drums. They had a national hit in 1986 with "Mil Campanas Suenan." The band's sound was straightforward Spanish rock, and they kept at it through the late '80s and early '90s.
In 1993 they released "El Mundo Tras el Cristal," a ballad that connected with younger listeners in a way their earlier work hadn't. The song became something of a generational touchstone, though the band itself never seemed entirely comfortable with that status. They followed it with songs like "Mil Calles llevan Hacia Ti" and "Háblame," which stuck to their established style.
La Guardia went through some lineup changes in the 2000s, with Javier Molina taking over on drums and Juanma Barea joining on keyboards. They kept recording, putting out albums like "Contra el Tiempo" in 2000 and "Retratos" in 2012. The core of España and García remained constant through it all.
