La Gurisa formed in Montevideo in 2008, with Silvana Moreno on vocals, Gonzalo Castex on guitar, Guillermo Giammarco on bass, and Germán Alvarez on drums. They started playing live shows around Uruguay, building a local following without much early recognition. Their song 'Solo Mentiras' caught on in 2013, becoming a hit in Uruguay and other parts of South America. The lyrics, which deal with infidelity and deceit, drew some criticism but also connected with listeners who appreciated their directness.
After the success of 'Solo Mentiras', the band saw some lineup changes. Gonzalo Castex left in 2015 and was replaced by Diego Etcheverry on guitar. Guillermo Giammarco departed in 2018, with Ignacio Dufau taking over on bass. Silvana Moreno and Germán Alvarez have stayed with the group through these shifts.
