La Mississippi formed in 1981 with Didier Vernin on guitar and vocals, Philippe Chavant on bass, and Claude Pontiggia on drums. Their first album, "La Vie en Bleu," came out in 1986. The band's second album, "Honky Tonk Parade," arrived in 1989 and gave them a wider audience. They've recorded songs like "Honey Bee," "Blues Del Equipaje," and "Matadero."
Pontiggia left in 1998, and Michel Foizon joined on drums. The group kept recording, putting out albums such as "La Place du Mort" in 2002 and "Soul Kitchen" in 2006. Their lineup has stayed steady since then with Vernin, Chavant, and Foizon.
In 2001, La Mississippi canceled a concert in Israel, which drew attention and debate. They've continued to play and record, releasing "Y'a d'la Joie" in 2010 and other albums since.
