La Peste Disiz formed in the late 1990s in Stains, a working-class suburb north of Paris. The group included rapper Disiz La Peste (Serigne M'Baye Gueye), producer DJ Fab, and MCs Busta Flex and Ill. Their music drew directly from the experiences of their community, with lyrics that addressed racism, social injustice, and poverty in plain terms.
Some accused the group of glorifying violence, while supporters heard it as an honest reflection of suburban realities. They followed with albums like "J'pète les plombs" in 2002 and "La Vie Rêvée 2" in 2004.
The 2001 single "Ultra Bo Gosse" became something of an anthem, with its catchy melody and playful lyrics about teenage rebellion. Other tracks like "9.1 Unda," "A nos actes manqués," and "C'est ca la France" continued their mix of social commentary and streetwise hip-hop. Disiz La Peste later pursued a solo career.
