La Pestilencia

La Pestilencia formed in Medellín, Colombia in 1988, with Héctor Buitrago as their lead vocalist. Their music came together during a difficult period in the city's history, and they developed a sound that mixed punk and rock with Colombian folk elements. Songs like "Estetica de Leche" and "Nada Me Obliga" carried lyrics that addressed social and political themes directly, delivered with Buitrago's distinctive raspy voice over distorted guitars and fast tempos.

They released their first album, Ritual, in 1991, followed by La Muerte de un Sueño in 1993 and Testigo de las Ruinas in 1995. Other records included Sexo y Guerra in 1997 and Puro Veneno in 2010. Their lineup changed over time, with musicians like Omar Ángel on guitar and Felipe Muñoz on bass playing in the band at various points, though Buitrago remained the consistent presence.

La Pestilencia's work sometimes drew attention for its critical perspective, but they kept recording and performing. They put out Estamos Parados in 2014 and La Insurrección in 2020, with tracks such as "14-16 (Sector de Limpieza)" and "Ahora Me Cuesta" continuing in their established style.
