La Rumeur

La Rumeur formed in 1999 with four members from the Paris suburbs: Ekoué, Hamé, Mourad, and Kool Shen. Their debut album 'L'Ecole du micro d'argent' came out in 2002, followed by 'Main basse sur la ville' in 2004 and '365 Cicatrices' in 2007.

Their songs like 'P.O.R.C (Pourquoi On Resterait Calme)' and 'Soldat Lambda' carried a direct, unpolished sound that drew both attention and criticism. Some listeners heard glorification of violence in their lyrics, while others recognized the group's attempt to document life in marginalized urban neighborhoods.

'365 Cicatrices' became a particularly noted track, with its sparse musical backdrop and lyrics addressing urban violence. The album of the same name arrived in 2007, continuing their pattern of hard-hitting beats paired with socially conscious themes.

La Rumeur's music stayed grounded in the realities of their Parisian surroundings, avoiding the polished production common in mainstream French rap at the time. Their work maintained a consistent focus on the communities they came from, even as their sound developed across those early 2000s releases.
