Laakso is a Finnish alternative rock band that formed in 2013. The members came from Ikaalinen: Timo Laakso on vocals and guitar, Jani Tamminen on bass, and Joonas Pelijoki on drums. Their music tends toward atmospheric soundscapes with hypnotic rhythms and introspective lyrics.
In 2015 they released an album called "Muste" (Ink), which earned a nomination for the Nordic Music Prize. The single "Aino" came out in 2018 and topped the Finnish charts, though it also drew criticism from some mental health organizations who felt it glamorized depression. The band defended the song as an exploration of complex emotions.
They followed up with another album, "Soiva Siili" (Singing Hedgehog), in 2019. In 2021 they performed a live set with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, blending classical and electronic elements. Other songs in their catalog include "Clear," "Demon," and "Fight the Fight."
