Laboratorium Pieśni formed in 2006 around Bartosz Chajdecki and Magdalena Laskowska, who both sang and played instruments like hurdy-gurdy and drums. They worked with other musicians at times, including Katarzyna Sokołowska on viola da gamba and Michał Górczyński on accordion.
Their music draws from Polish and Slavic folk traditions, with songs like 'Sztoj Pa Moru' and 'Na Cmentarzu Mieszkac Bede' showing their approach to older material. They released albums including 'Słowiańskie Improwizacje' in 2010 and 'Znak' in 2016.
Some listeners questioned how they handled traditional melodies, but they kept working on their own terms. Their recordings have a particular sound that mixes vocal harmonies with instruments not always heard in contemporary music.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
