Lady of Rage

Lady of Rage, born Robin Yvette Allen in Baltimore, came up in the early 1990s Los Angeles hip-hop scene. Dr. Dre signed her to Death Row Records in 1993, which put her in the middle of that label's turbulent era. Her debut album 'Necessary Roughness' arrived in 1997 with features from Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and Dre himself.

Her track 'Afro Puffs' became something more than just a song. With its catchy hook and straightforward celebration of Black women's style, it turned into an anthem that resonated widely. Other songs like 'Get With Da Wickedness (flow Like That)' and 'Rough rugged and raw' showed off her particular delivery and energy on the mic.

After her time at Death Row, she kept working, collaborating with artists like Warren G and Xzibit. She never became a constant chart presence, but for a certain generation of hip-hop listeners, especially women in the genre, her voice and that one definitive song carried a specific weight.
