Archive material and source history
Lady Soul was a trio formed in 1997, with Khadijah Haqq, Meelah Williams, and Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes on vocals. Their sound mixed R&B, soul, and hip-hop, anchored by Haqq's alto, Williams's soprano, and Lopes's rap verses. They put out a self-titled debut album in 1999, which included the track "If My Sister's In Trouble."
Lopes, who was also part of TLC, died in a car accident in April 2002. After that, Haqq and Williams kept going as Lady Soul, releasing albums like "Soul Power" in 2002 and a compilation in 2005. The group's music often dealt with themes of sisterhood and personal strength, sometimes drawing criticism for its direct lyrics.
