Lafon Jean-Jacques was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast in 1958. He started playing guitar and singing with Les Ambassadeurs in the early 1980s, appearing on their album "Ambassadeurs International."
His solo debut came in 1987 with the album "C'est Beaucoup Mieux Comme Ça." The title track became widely known in Francophone Africa, with its straightforward message about things being better one way than another. Other songs from that period include "Châteaux de porcelaine" and "La danseuse."
In the 1990s and early 2000s, Lafon released several more albums including "Adouma" in 1993 and "Génération consciente" in 2002. He continued performing and recording songs like "Elle voit" and "Je savais rien de toi."
