Lagartos formed in Mexico City in 1990. Their name means 'lizards' in Spanish. The band included Juan Pablo Zepeda on vocals, Fernando Martínez on guitar, Pablo Mejía on bass, and Guillermo Farrera on drums.
They released their self-titled debut album in 1992. Their 1997 album 'Que Bueno Verte' featured the song of the same name, which became their most recognizable track.
After that album, they put out 'Verde' in 2000 and 'Blanco' in 2003. The band's music incorporated rock, folk, and experimental elements.
