Laikipia formed in 2010 as a trio from Kenya, with Mwangi Handa on vocals and guitar, Joshua Wairimu on bass, and Albert Wambugu on drums. They named themselves after a county in central Kenya. Their debut album, 'Tales of the Distant Land,' came out in 2012.
In 2015, they released 'Hello Dreamer,' which became their most recognized song. Another track, 'You Are My Life,' also appears among their top songs. Their music draws from traditional African rhythms and folk melodies.
In 2017, the band faced some criticism for performing at a political rally, which led to discussions about artists' roles in social matters. Their work includes the album 'Tales of the Distant Land' from 2012.
