Lakissova

Lakissova was a French band active in the late 1980s and 1990s, built around the trio of Véronique Alaya, Catherine Gourmelen, and Françoise Sahel. Their sound pulled from techno, soul, and various rhythmic traditions, which gave them an unconventional place in the mainstream of that time. They're still remembered for the 1989 single "Pam-Param," a track that became a hit but also drew some criticism for its lyrical content.

Alaya handled vocals while Sahel played bass and Gourmelen worked with keyboards and effects, creating a layered, pulsing foundation. They put out a few albums, starting with the self-titled "Pam-Param" in 1989, followed by others like "Message de Minuit" and "Volubile." The music kept shifting, touching on jazz, funk, and world influences without settling into one genre.

By the late 1990s they had faded from view, but "Pam-Param" has lingered as a curious artifact of that period, a odd, catchy piece that doesn't sound quite like anything else from the era.
