Lali Puna

Lali Puna formed in Cologne in 1998 as a quartet with Markus and Christoph Achermann, Valerie Trebeljahr, and Christian Heiss. They started releasing music the following year with their debut album 'Triage,' which set a tone of ethereal, melancholic electronics. Over the next decade they put out records like 'Scary World Theory,' 'Faking the Books,' and 'Our Inventions,' quietly refining their blend of ambient textures and pop structures.

Valerie Trebeljahr's vocals often drift through their tracks with a detached, haunting quality, as on songs like 'Together in a Electric Dreams' and 'Alienation.' Their sound never settled into one genre, it's electronic, but with enough space and melody to feel approachable, even when the arrangements get subtly experimental.

They built a following without much fanfare, mostly through consistent albums and a sound that felt both intimate and slightly alien. There's a persistent calm to their music, even on more rhythmic pieces like '6-0-3' or 'B-Movie,' that makes their catalog feel like a sustained mood rather than a series of statements.
