Lalo Ayala was born José Eduardo Ayala Ruiz in Agualeguas, Nuevo León, Mexico. He started performing locally in his late teens, and in 1970 formed the band Los Cadetes de Linares.
His ballad 'Te Vendo Un Corazón' became his most recognizable song. Some of his corridos drew criticism for their subject matter, which often involved outlaws and criminals.
Ayala recorded albums like 'Corridos Prohibidos' in 1978 and 'Te Vendo Un Corazón' in 1982. He worked with musicians including Homero Guerrero on accordion.
