Lama formed in Porto Alegre, Brazil in the early 1990s with Toni Platão on vocals, Paulo Camelo playing multiple instruments, and Cristiano Vianna on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1994 and included the song "Luxúria," which drew attention for its direct lyrics about desire.
They kept recording through the late 1990s and 2000s, putting out albums like "Nação Lama" in 1997 and "Mordida" in 2003. Their sound pulled from different styles, sometimes touching on samba or reggae alongside rock. Other tracks like "Fantasy" and "105 B" show that range.
Platão had some personal troubles that affected the band's schedule, including a drug possession arrest in 1999 and a serious car accident in 2005. They took breaks but kept coming back to play and record, releasing "Raiz" in 2011.
