Background notes

Archive material and source history

Lamoureux Robert was a French band formed in the 1970s by three siblings: Jean-Pierre Lamoureux on vocals and guitar, Marie-Paule Lamoureux on backing vocals and accordion, and Jean-Louis Lamoureux on bass. Their mother Marthe Lamoureux managed the group and inspired their most famous song. The family setup gave their music a particular warmth, with folk-pop arrangements built around catchy melodies and that distinctive accordion sound.

Their 1976 song 'Papa, Maman, la bonne et moi' became a national hit in France. It captured family dynamics with a light, humorous touch that resonated widely. The song's success defined the band's career, even as some critics dismissed their approach as too simple.

After Jean-Pierre Lamoureux died in 1984, Marie-Paule and Jean-Louis continued performing under the same name. They kept touring and released albums through the late 1980s, including 'Les années 80' in 1988. While they never matched the impact of that early hit, 'Papa, Maman, la bonne et moi' remained a familiar song in French popular culture.
