Lampião Elétrico formed in 2006 in the sertão region of northeastern Brazil, where traditional forró music has deep roots. Their name references Virgulino Ferreira da Silva, the early 20th century outlaw known as Lampião who roamed those same backlands.
Their debut album 'Do Cangaço' came out in 2007, with the title track reworking a folk song about Lampião. Other songs like 'Olhos de Jabuticaba' and 'Xaxado Com Lampião' show how they mixed forró rhythms with rock and electronic elements.
Some traditional forró listeners criticized this fusion approach, but the band kept working with those combinations. Their sound draws from the region's musical heritage while incorporating contemporary influences.
