Lança Chamas formed in São Paulo in 2002 with vocalist and guitarist Ian Duarte, bassist Felipe Zanuto, and drummer André César. Their debut album 'Para Clarear' came out in 2005, and the title track became an instant sensation in Brazil.
Their lyrics often criticized Brazilian society and politics, which drew criticism from conservative groups and sparked censorship accusations. Despite this, they kept releasing albums like 'Escracho' in 2008, 'A Revolução do Amor' in 2011, and 'O Mundo Vai Cair' in 2015.
In 2013, bassist Felipe Zanuto died in a car accident. The band continued with Ian Duarte as the constant member, working with various collaborators including bassist Brunno Benas.
