Lance Percival

Lance Percival was born in Blackpool in 1933 and started out playing piano and singing in a skiffle group called The Yetties in the late 1950s. His career shifted when he joined the satirical revue 'Beyond the Fringe' in 1961, where his comedic timing and stage presence caught attention.

Around that time he released 'Shame And Scandal In The Family,' a humorous song about family drama that became popular on radio. The tune's catchy melody and lighthearted approach helped make Percival known to a wider audience.

His involvement with 'Beyond the Fringe' led to an obscenity charge over a sketch that mocked the monarchy, though the charges were dropped. Percival had a reputation for sharp wit and challenging social norms, which sometimes put him at odds with critics and parts of his audience.
