Lanewin

Lanewin formed in 2007 from the remains of the band Auris, with Sarah Jezebel Deva on vocals, Karl Groom on guitar, Chris Fry on keyboards, Rob Harrington on bass, and Tim Yeardley on drums. They put out their first album, 'Death's Lullaby', that same year. Deva left in 2010, and Siobhan Wilson took over as vocalist.

They've released six studio albums, including 'Monument' in 2009, 'Arc Luna' in 2011, and 'In the Absence of Light' in 2018. Songs like 'Dark Love' and 'Gate of Lanewin' show their gothic rock style, built around atmospheric keyboards and heavy guitars. The music doesn't really aim for redemption or light; it sits in that shadowy space and stays there.

Their sound is pretty consistent across those records, ethereal vocals over a foundation of thunderous riffing and synth layers. It's the kind of thing that appeals to listeners who want their rock draped in gloom, without much of a pop hook in sight. They haven't put out a new album since 2018, but the older material, like 'Essence of War' or 'Heartbeat', still gets played in those circles.
