Lankum

Lankum formed in Dublin in 2016 with vocalist Radie Peat, multi-instrumentalist Ian Lynch, and brothers Conor and Daragh Lynch. Their music draws from traditional Irish folk, though they approach it with a contemporary sensibility that avoids simple revivalism. The song 'Cold Old Fire' gives a fair sense of their sound, spare, atmospheric, and anchored by Peat's clear, direct vocals.

Their first album, 'Between the Earth and Sky,' came out in 2017 and mixed traditional ballads with original material. By 2019's 'The Livelong Day,' they were incorporating more experimental textures while keeping the arrangements lean and deliberate. They've played festivals like Glastonbury, but their live shows tend to be more about sustained mood than spectacle.

In 2019, the group apologized and removed lyrics containing a slur after criticism. They handled it quietly, without turning it into a public drama. Since then, they've kept working, letting the music, rooted but not reverent, speak for itself.
