Lantana formed as a university music project in Bogotá around 2005. The group included Adriana Lucía on lead vocals, Catalina García and Ana María Alzate on vocals and instruments, with Santiago Cruz and Juan Fernando Fonseca handling guitars and composition. Their sound pulled from Colombian rhythms alongside pop and folk elements.
In 2008, their song "¿Dónde Estás?" connected widely, becoming something of an anthem about missing someone. Other tracks like "Alegria" and "Ex-Corazón" followed. Around 2010, they paused recording due to a legal issue with their label, but returned to work a couple years later.
