Lara Gustavo

Lara Gustavo came together in Mexico City in the late 1990s, with Lorena Ochoa on vocals, Gustavo Flores on guitar, Pedro González on bass, and Juan Carlos Martínez on drums. Their first single, "Aliento Con Aliento," came out in 2000 and found an audience with its melancholic but hopeful feel. They followed it with albums like A Corazón Abierto in 2000 and Volverte a Ver in 2003.

Their songs often dealt with love and loss, as heard in tracks like "Ganas De Llorar" and "Por Volverte A Amar." Ochoa's expressive voice was a central part of their sound, supported by Flores's guitar work and González's bass lines. They kept recording through the 2000s, putting out Dejarte Ir in 2007 and Renacer in 2012.

At times, their straightforwardly emotional lyrics drew some criticism for being too sentimental, while others appreciated the directness. The band's dynamic, with Ochoa's prominent role as frontwoman, occasionally led to talk about gender perceptions in the industry, but they continued working through it.
