Larica Dos Mulekes came out of São Paulo's favelas in the early 2000s. The group consisted of MC Menor do Chapa (Walace Alves do Nascimento Jr.) and MC Menor da VG (Victor Gabriel do Nascimento Nunes). Their music mixed funk, rap, and samba, with songs like 'Pão Com Salsicha' and 'Tô Com Fome, Quero Leite (Quero Um Pedaço de Pão)' speaking plainly about hunger and daily life.
Their lyrics about favela realities drew both praise and criticism, with some accusing them of glorifying violence. In 2014, MC Menor do Chapa was arrested for allegedly threatening a reporter, which sparked public debate about the band's influence. They released albums including 'Tô Com Fome, Quero Leite (Quero Um Pedaço de Pão)' in 2012, 'A Vida É Um Ciclo' in 2014, 'Nosso Lar' in 2016, and 'O Mundo É Nosso' in 2018.
In 2019, MC Menor da VG was shot and killed at age 23. His death devastated the group and the Brazilian music community that had followed their work.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
