Las Canciones del Zoo formed in Barcelona in 1999 with Santi Balmes and Joan Colomo on vocals and guitar, Oriol Bonet on bass, and Jordi Torrents on drums. They started putting out albums in the early 2000s, like their 2003 debut 'La Canción de Simón' and 2006's 'La Madre'.
Their music pulls from rock, pop, funk, folk, and Catalan traditions, but it's the lyrics that usually get people talking. That kind of thing just cemented their cult following.
They've got a whole catalog of playful, animal-themed tracks too, like 'Sammy El Heradero', 'Cha Cha Cha Del Cocodrilo', and 'Cinco Monitos'. The band has released eight studio albums total, each with its own mix of musical styles and that characteristic lyrical wit.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
