Las Taradas formed in Mexico City in the 1950s. The group was an all-female quartet with Rosa María Aredondo on vocals, Cuca Rivero on guitar, María Teresa 'Teresita' Rodríguez on violin, and Alicia Rodríguez on accordion. Their name translates to 'The Crazy Ones' in Spanish.
Their version of 'Bei Mir Bistu Shein' became their signature song and helped them find an audience beyond Mexico. They released their debut album 'Las Taradas Cantando' in 1956. Other songs in their repertoire included 'You're The Boss' and 'Comin'home, baby'.
They performed at venues like the Olympia in Paris and Carnegie Hall in New York. Their lineup being all women was unusual for the time and drew attention.
