Gloria Lasso was born Gloria Veronica Perez Mercader in Madrid. She started performing in local bars and nightclubs as a young woman, and in the 1940s, Argentine bandleader Mariano Mores invited her to join his orchestra. They toured South America together, and her interpretations of tango classics found an audience.
Her song 'Amour, castagnettes et tango' came out in 1950 and became closely associated with her. Other recordings include 'L'histoire d'un amour,' 'Luna de Miel,' and 'Bambino.' She toured in Europe and the United States, and she worked with musicians like Osvaldo Pugliese and Los Panchos.
Her personal life sometimes drew public attention, but she kept recording into the 1960s with albums like 'Gloria Lasso con Los Panchos.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
