Latoca Hits formed in the late 1990s with Bruno Garcia on vocals and guitar, Paulo Bahia on accordion, and Alexandre Oliveira on bass. Their debut album 'Mau Olhado' came out in 1998, and the title track 'Mau Olhado (Light)' became a hit. They released three more studio albums: 'Virtude' in 2000, 'O Céu de Santo Amaro' in 2003, and a self-titled record in 2009.
Their music worked within the MPB tradition, drawing from bossa nova and Brazilian popular songwriters like Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso. At one point they faced accusations of plagiarism over a melody in the song 'Cara de Pau,' which the band denied.
