Lau Capym formed in São Paulo in the mid-1990s, a Brazilian band that took its name from an anagram for 'capybara,' the large rodent native to South America. Their core lineup included vocalist and guitarist Rodrigão, guitarist and vocalist Gê Fonseca, bassist and vocalist Carol Ribeiro, and drummer Rodrigo Silveira.
In 1997 they released their debut album 'Fricção,' which contained the song 'Cheiro do Cabelo.' That track became their signature piece, a haunting melody with lyrics about the lingering scent of a lover's hair that connected with listeners across Brazil.
They went on to record several more albums, including 'Acústico MTV' in 2002, 'Aurora' in 2010, and 'Nosso Tempo' in 2019. Their music blended pop, rock, and MPB with intricate harmonies and poetic lyrics about everyday experiences.
