The singer behind 'Gloria' and 'Self Control' brought dramatic intensity to dance floors worldwide.
For the full effect, listen to 'Self Control' back-to-back with 'Shadow Of Love.' That's where her voice really locks in.
Her version of 'Gloria' became a signature hit, but it was 'Self Control' that turned her into an international phenomenon. That title track reached number one in over thirty countries, written by Italian producer Raffaele Riefoli. Songs like 'Shadow Of Love' and 'Cry Wolf' showed how she could make synth-pop feel urgent and emotional.
She studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City before her 1982 debut album 'Branigan' introduced 'Gloria.' The 1984 album 'Self Control' made her name globally. She died in 2004.
