Laura Petit formed in São Paulo in 2008, with Marina Petit on vocals, Fábio Oliveira on guitar, Hugo Alvim on bass, and Pedro Alves on drums. Their sound mixed funk, rock, and samba, and they put out their first album, 'Rabia,' in 2010. That record's explicit lyrics and political tone got them noticed, not always favorably, but they kept going with 'Coragem' in 2013 and 'Resiliência' in 2016.
Their track 'Picadinha' became a kind of anthem, and other songs like 'Durex' and 'Quadril É Osso' showed their knack for catchy, provocative tunes. In 2014, Marina Petit made a sexually suggestive gesture during a live show, which sparked a backlash and accusations of indecency. The band defended it as part of their self-expression, arguing it reflected aspects of Brazilian society.
Laura Petit's music found an audience among fans who connected with its themes of resilience and social justice.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
