Lauro Pirata is the stage name of Laura Dias dos Santos, who grew up in the Grajaú favela of Rio de Janeiro. She formed a band in 2014 with Bruno Marcolini on drums, Lucas Ramos on bass, and Gabriel de Carvalho on guitar. Their debut album 'Do Graja' came out in 2016 and gave the project its first real momentum.
Her songs draw from samba, funk, and Brazilian hip-hop, with lyrics that often touch on life in her neighborhood. Tracks like 'Ela' and 'Em Pé Na Cadeira' have a rhythmic drive that feels both local and contemporary. The 'Feito Na Rua' recordings capture that street-level energy.
After 'Do Graja', they put out 'Na Pele' in 2018, 'Lágrimas e Flores' in 2020, and 'Eu Sou Assim' in 2022. The music keeps a steady pulse between celebration and social observation, without losing its connection to Rio's sounds.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
