Lavapé formed in Rio de Janeiro with Felipe Bade on vocals and percussion, Gabriel Moura on guitar, Lucas Vasconcellos on bass, and Gustavo da Lua on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 2015, followed by 'Brasil' in 2018 and 'Alegria' in 2021.
Their song 'Brasil' became particularly well-known around the 2018 World Cup, with its upbeat samba-funk sound connecting with listeners. Other tracks like 'We Still Have Time' and 'Curta Esse Momento' carry that same rhythmic energy, blending Brazilian traditions with contemporary touches.
In 2019, the band had a public disagreement with a record label over music rights, which they eventually resolved. Their music draws from Brazilian artists like Jorge Ben Jor and Tim Maia, working with themes of everyday life and celebration rather than grand statements.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
