Lay Susan formed in London in 2013, originally with Oliver Cherer, Will Scott, and Cameron Picton. Their debut EP 'Contradiction' came out in 2015, with the title track becoming an early favorite. The band's sound has often been described as atmospheric indie with folk touches.
In 2017, the group faced criticism over their involvement with a festival that drew accusations of racism and homophobia. This led to guitarist Will Scott leaving the project. Cherer and Picton continued with new members Matt Jones on drums and Tom Hall on keyboards.
The band released their debut album 'Big Ideas' in 2018, followed by EPs 'Places' in 2019 and 'Time' in 2021. Songs like 'Hide Behind The Sun' and 'Misery Loves Company' show their continued interest in moody, introspective material.
