Lay Zhang first gained attention as a member of the K-pop group EXO, where he sang and danced. He started playing piano at six and grew up with classical and traditional Chinese music in Changsha. In 2016, he released his first solo album, 'Lose Control,' which included the ballad 'Painting.'

That song showed his more personal side, with emotional vocals and lyrics that felt different from his work with EXO. Some listeners questioned his shift toward a sound that felt more distinctly Chinese, but he kept making his own music anyway.

He's put out other albums like 'Sheep,' 'NAMANANA,' and 'Lit,' working with producers and sometimes collaborating with artists outside Korea.
