Layres Mendonça came from Iguatu, Ceará, and moved to São Paulo when he was 18. He worked on his songwriting there, and in 1984, the producer João Araújo started working with him.
His 1986 album 'Experiência' included the title track that became widely known in Brazil. Other songs like 'Como Nos Dias de Noé' and 'Mais de Ti' also appeared in his catalog during this period.
He kept recording through the late 1980s and into the mid-1990s, with albums such as 'Lição de Vida' in 1988 and 'De Repente, Caí na Real' in 1995.
