Lê Guedes

Lê Guedes came up in Recife, a coastal city in Brazil. He started playing music early, drawing from the local rhythms and the sounds of samba and bossa nova that were part of the air there. He plays guitar and sings.

His 1998 album 'O Navegante' was a turning point. The title track became a kind of standard, its quiet, reflective mood finding an audience. The record established his sound, which pulls from those Brazilian traditions but feels more inward, built around his own guitar work and a vocal style that can shift from a whisper to something higher and more fragile.

He works with a small band, including guitarist Fábio Sá, bassist Lucas Gomes, and drummer Marcos Suzano. They've made a handful of records since, like 'Seu Corpo' in 2002 and 'Casa' in 2016. Songs like 'O Novo Já Vem' and 'A Expressão da Lua' show his continued focus on melody and lyrical introspection, often circling themes of longing and quiet observation.

Some listeners find his work too melancholic or deliberately uncommercial. But for others, that very quality is what sticks. He's kept at it, making music that feels personal and specific to his corner of Brazil, without much concern for fitting into a broader scene.
