Le Petit Prince began as a project between Matthieu Chedid (who records as -M-) and his brother Joseph, taking its name from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's classic children's book. They were later joined by drummer Samy Osta and lyricist Gerald de Palmas. Their first album, 'La Maison des Étrangers,' came out in 1997.
Songs like 'Apprivoise-Moi' and 'Adieu (Et Tâche D'Être Heureux)' show their approach: melodic French chanson with folk touches and some rock energy. They followed that debut with albums in 2002, 2004, and 2008.
Early on, some critics found their music too simple, and they had technical problems at shows. But they kept working in their own lane. Their lyrics, often written by de Palmas, lean toward the poetic and reflective.
